System Requirements

To use the ConnectionManager, you will need a computer with at least:

  • Windows® XP SP3, Vista® or Vista® SP1
  • At least 100 MB free hard disk space
  • 32 MB RAM
  • Administrator rights to install the ConnectionManager

A video card that supports a screen resolution of 800x600 or higher and a colour quality of 16 bits or higher

Depending on the device you are going to use for your mobile communication with the ConnectionManager software, you will need one of the following:

A free USB port for your USB modem.

For a WLAN connection you will need one of the following:

  • A built-in WLAN device
  • A data card with WLAN.
  • A free USB port for your WLAN USB device.

Note:

Ensure that you have read and observed the manual and safety instructions that you have received from your device manufacturers.

How to install the ConnectionManager on Windows XP

Installing the software

Before you start with the installation process you need to check if you have administrator rights to PC.

You can only continue with the installation when you have administrator rights. If you do not have administrator rights on your computer, please contact your System administrator.

First either plug in your USB Modem or download the ConnectionManager from here:

ConnectionManager

The language of the installation program is automatically determined by your Windows version. So if you have an English Windows operating system the installation program will be English.

The ConnectionManager will start in the language set by the OS settings in Windows if supported by the software. If not the ConnectionManager will default to English. The ConnectionManager supports 16 languages.

After pressing "Next" you will get the EULA.

The EULA is the End User License Agreement. You need to read it carefully.
After you have read the EULA you need to accept it before you can continue.
You can select the language Spanish or English through the dropdown box.
It will not be possible to continue with the installation without accepting the EULA.

ConnectionManager

After pressing next you will get the "Account activation screen". In this screen you can validate your ConnectionManager account. If you do not (yet) have an account with FREEDOM4 WiFi WiFi you can create this account by pressing "sign up".

To activate or create an account you need to have a working Internet connection.

ConnectionManager

After pressing "Next" you will arrive in the "Supported Technologies screen"

In this screen you can determine if you want to enable or disable: LAN, WLAN and/or GSM.

Note:

When you disable an option, you can not re-enable this technology in the ConnectionManager. You need to repair or reinstall the application.

ConnectionManager

Pressing "Next" will bring you to the next screen. In this screen you can determine if you want to send feedback to the ConnectionManager update server. If you want more information about feedback simply click "Here".

ConnectionManager

When you press on "Next" you will reach the "Summary screen". Here you can see which options are enabled or disabled. Also in this screen you can change the installation directory of the ConnectionManager. By default this is "C:\program Files\FREEDOM4 WiFi\ConnectionManager". To change the installation location press "Change".

ConnectionManager

You can change your username and the name of the organisation in the next screen. The InstallShield will use, by default, your normal username and organisation name that was used for the installation of Windows.

You can select if the ConnectionManager is installed for you or for all users using the computer.

By pressing "Next" you will reach the final screen of the installation wizard and that is the "Check for updates" screen. In this screen you can determine if you want to check for updates manually. To check for updates it is necessary to have a working Internet connection. It is not necessary to perform a check for updates manually; the ConnectionManager will do this automatically when you set up a connection.

ConnectionManager

When you press "Install", the ConnectionManager will be installed on your computer. During this installation do not shut down the computer or log off with your account.

When the installation is finished you will see the following screen.

When you press "Finish" the installation application will close and you can start using the ConnectionManager. Please note you maybe asked to restart your laptop.

How to install the ConnectionManager on Windows Vista

Installing the software

Wait for pop up window and click Run AutoRun.exe

The Mobile Partner Wizard will start, click next

Set up a connection

The ConnectionManager will start automatically in small view, to open the large view of the ConnectionManager you need to click on the large arrows.

ConnectionManager

You can connect with the ConnectionManager through an "Automatic" connection or a "Manual" connection. When you select "Automatic"; the ConnectionManager will automatically connect with the connection that is on top of the list under the Connections tab, when you press the "Connect" button. The button will change into "Disconnect" once clicked. When "Disconnect" is pressed the connection will terminate. It is possible to change the order of connections, how to do this can be found in the help file that is present in the ConnectionManager or the User Manual.

ConnectionManager

When you want to connect with the "Manual" option, you need to select the connection you want to use and click "Connect". The ConnectionManager will use the selected connection under either the "Connections" tab or "Networks" tab.

Location of the help file

The ConnectionManager has its own help file with explanations of all the functions that the ConnectionManager has. You can find the help file by clicking "Help".

Click on "Topics". This will open the help file.

You can also open the help file when you press "F1" while the ConnectionManager is running.

I cannot get ConnectionManager to work

There may be a number of reasons why you cannot get the ConnectionManager to work. We the following:

  • Try restarting your computer
  • Try uninstalling ConnectionManager and installing Mobile Partner or making a connection using Windows. This will work out if the problem is with the software or with the device. For further instructions on how to do this click here
