Example: Logging in at BT Openzone

When you're in a BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspot or outdoor coverage area with your wireless-enabled device:

  1. Insert a WiFi card or switch on wireless capability
  2. Select BT Openzone via the WiFi signal icon in your system tray and connect
  3. Open your web browser and a BT log-in page will appear. If it doesn't, type 'www.btopenzone.com' into your browser's address bar
  4. Select BT Openzone via the WiFi signal icon in your system tray and connect
  5. Select FREEDOM4 WiFi

  6. Hotspot Login - BT Openzone

  7. When the FREEDOM4 WiFi login page loads, enter your username and password

  8. Hotspot Login - BT Openzone

  9. Once connected, minimise your browser or open up a new tab. Please make sure you keep this window open so that you can log out at the end of your session

  10. Hotspot Login - BT Openzone

  11. If using it, launch your Virtual Private Network (VPN) client now and log in
  12. You should now have Internet access
  13. When you've finished, you need to quit your VPN first, in order to log out of the BT Openzone network. This will ensure your session is ended and you do not use any additional minutes.
Important:

If you're using Windows XP(SP2) or Windows Vista and view wireless connection status, you'll see BT Openzone and other FREEDOM4 WiFi partnered WiFi networks described as an 'Unsecured wireless network' or similar. Windows XP (SP2) and Windows Vista describes most public access wireless networks in this way. Please ignore this. BT Openzone and all FREEDOM4 WiFi hotspot partners use sophisticated 128-bit public key encryption during log-in to protect transfer of your data. Account traffic is encrypted and your account is password protected.
